DURING 9/11 A HERO GUIDE DOG, ROSELLE, GUIDED HER BLIND OWNER DOWN 78 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS TO SAFETY. HOT, CROWDED, AND NOISY, SHE DIDN’T FLINCH ONCE.PI

On September 11, 2001, a guide dog named Roselle became a hero when she led her blind owner, Michael Hingson, and more than 30 others down 78 flights of stairs of the North Tower of the World Trade Center to safety. Despite the smoke, noise, and chaos, Roselle remained calm and focused, using her steady presence to help those around her stay calm.

Details of Roselle’s heroic actions:
Guide role: As the stairwells filled with smoke and screams, Roselle maintained her role as a guide dog, leading her owner and the group out of the building.
Keep calm: Despite the building shaking and explosions, Roselle remained steadfast, helping the others not panic.
Comforting action: At one point, Roselle stopped to comfort a panicked woman. The dog gently nuzzled and kissed the woman’s hand, providing reassurance in an extremely stressful situation.
Symbol of hope: Roselle’s calmness and loyalty helped the group turn their fear into courage, allowing them to continue their escape.
Roselle’s Legacy:
After that event, Roselle served until 2007 and passed away in 2011.
Roselle’s story is still remembered as a testament to the deep bond between humans and guide dogs, and the courage that can come from four legs, with a wagging tail and a heart full of love.
